Samuel Lee Canter Jr., age 89, of Broadway in Irvine, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023, at his home following a long illness. He was born August 28, 1934, in Estill County and was the son of the late Samuel Lee Canter Sr. and Esther Hughes Canter. He was retired from Proctor & Gamble where he worked as a Mechanic. He was a United States Army Veteran, and he attended the Friendship Baptist Church. He had lived in Estill County all his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavenda “Jo” Jamison Canter, and he is survived by:
2 daughters: Vickie Dunaway - Madison Co.
LaSonia Smith - Laurel Co.
1 son: Samuel Glenn Canter (Patty) - Jefferson Co.
2 grandchildren: Dustin Dunaway (Tiffany Richardson)
Ashley Simpson (Graham)
1 nephew: Rick Canter (Jean)
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lenvil Canter, 1 grandson, Cody Austin Canter, and 1 niece, Teresa Canter.
Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, November 28, 1 PM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rick Canter officiating. Burial will be at the Cobb Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 AM to 1 PM.
