Roger Glynn Richardson, age 76, of Cedar Grove Road in Irvine, passed away Friday, October 3, 2025, at the UK Chandler Hospital after a tragic accident. He was born February 28, 1949, in Estill County and was the son of the late McDonald and Minnie Estes Richardson. Roger was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Roger is survived by his wife, Ann Richardson; his daughter Shannon (Howard) Chaney of Richmond, KY and his stepson Anthony (Natalie) Rupard, Traverse City, MI and his cherished grandchildren, Jakolbi (Brooke) Crowe, Jessup Chaney, and Anna Mae and Owen Rupard. He was also blessed to welcome his first great-grandchild, Ivey Crowe. He is survived by his siblings, Donald Lee (Evelyn) Richardson, Clarksville, IN and Sandra (Joe) Wilds, Zoe, Ky, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Christopher Wayne Richardson.
Roger was a Godly man of deep faith in Jesus Christ and a member of Rice Station Christian Church. He lived his life as a servant leader, sharing endless love with his family, friends, church family, and the Estill County community. Known as a man of honor, he was respected by all and always ready to help others.
He retired from CSX Railroad, earning the admiration of coworkers and colleagues. He played a key role in establishing the Kentucky Steam Heritage Museum in Ravenna, leaving a legacy for the community. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement from Eastern Kentucky University. He was a Kentucky Colonel, an avid genealogist, and published a book, A Living History of the Flynn’s of Estill County, Kentucky.
Roger served four years in the United States Air Force Security Service. Roger loved watching and attending Cincinnati Reds baseball games with his family and Eastern Kentucky University basketball games as a proud season ticket holder.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 7 at 11 am at Rice Station Christian Church with Brothers Joe Hall and John Peterson officiating. Burial will be at the South Irvine Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6 from 6-9 pm at Rice Station Christian Church.
Pallbearers: Elmer Scott Beckler, Jessup Chaney, Jack Collins, Bruce Cox, Jakolbi Crowe, David Harrison, Clarence Rison and Jerry Tipton.
Honorary Pallbearers: Christopher Wayne Richardson, Donald Lee Richardson, Howard Chaney, Jim Collins, Paul Gerth and Anthony Rupard.
