Marvin Wilson, age 96, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 8, 2024 in Richmond, Kentucky. Marvin was born to the late Marvin E. and Mary Lee Todd Wilson on September 11, 1927 in Estill County, Kentucky. In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry and Douglas and sister, Geneva.
Marvin was a life long member of the Irvine Free Methodist Church where he served in many capacities as well as treasurer for the Kentucky/Tennesee Conference of the Free Methodist Church. His Christian faith was central to his life and at the heart of all he did. Marvin lived a life of faith, filled with service to God and to others. He was often seen as a man of quiet reflection who was principled. He was able to carry on a conversation with anyone and enjoyed doing so.
He was a United States Army Veteran serving in World War 2. He owned a grocery store with his father, worked for the United States Post Office and ultimately retired after a long career with Union Bank and Trust and BBT Bank. Outside of that, he had the heart of a farmer.
Marvin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, is survived by his loving wife of almost 74 years, Betty Rhodus Wilson, his daughter, Debra (Thomas) Kepka, and sons, Joe (Janice) Wilson and John Mark (Lisa) Wilson as well as a brother, Sam Wilson and a sister, Sue (Carl) Bull. Marvin is also survived by five grandchildren and five great grandchildren whom he loved immensely. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he held dear. He enjoyed being with family whenever possible.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 12, 1 PM, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Parker and Dr. Tony Headley officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 AM to 1 PM.
