Lucille Lakes Durham, age 87, of Cedar Grove Road in Irvine, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. She was born March 4, 1937, in Jackson County and was the daughter of the late Luther Taft Lakes and Modena Cox Lakes. She was a housewife and mother and had lived in Estill County most of her life. She was a member of the Baptist Faith and loved watching WLJC on television. She is survived by:
3 daughters: Cathy Sue Durham Burrough - Irvine
Marlene Durham McKinney - Irvine
Shelia Jo Durham (Jennifer Hitch) - Richmond
1 son: Benual Taft Durham - Irvine
1 sister: Denna Faye Bowles - Richmond
2 brothers: Delbert Lakes - Missouri
Johnny Lakes - Irvine
3 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren
And a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Alena Powell, Ella Mae Lakes,
3 brothers, Charles Ermin Lakes, James “Joe” Lakes, Billy Ray Lakes, and 1 grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 4, 1 PM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with Bro. McKaylyn Harris officiating. Burial will be at the South Irvine Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 AM to 1 PM.
