Joanne Porkka Chaney, 65, of Irvine, KY passed away on September 6th, 2024, following a short illness. Joanne was born on September 16th, 1958, in Teaneck, New Jersey.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, late Peter Porkka, Sr. and the late Margaret Tenewitz Porkka and her brother, Peter Porkka, Jr. She is survived by her children: Becky (Joe) Crawford of Irvine, KY and Christopher (B.J.) Chaney of Richmond, KY and 5 grandchildren: Andrew Chaney, Ethan Martin, Camble Crawford, Kyser Chaney, and Teagan Crawford. She is also survived by her siblings: Judi (Jim) Tymon of Hamilton Square, New Jersey, Barbara Allan of Toms River, New Jersey, Kenny (Dorothy) Porkka of Park Ridge, New Jersey, Lisa Kondvar of Warwick, Rhode Island and Tom (Maria) Porkka of Rivervale, New Jersey. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
She was proud of her upbringing in Englewood, New Jersey. She loved the Yankees, the Jersey Shore and Bruce Springsteen. She loved to travel, especially when it was to St. Maarten for Thanksgiving with family and friends. Joanne served the public for many years through her work as a cashier at Save A Lot. During that time, she made many lasting friendships with her customers and coworkers. Her favorite times were those spent laughing with her kids and grandkids or conference calling with her brothers and sisters.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday, September 15th, 2024, from 12-2pm at Toler’s Funeral Home in Irvine, KY. A short Celebration of Life will follow the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice Care Plus (350 Isaacs Ln, Richmond, KY 40475).
