Obituary for James "Jimmy" Willard Richardson II

James “Jimmy” Willard Richardson II, age 80, born October 13, 1945, to the late Willard and Louise Tuttle Richardson, departed his Earthly home on May 15, 2026, after a short illness.

March 15, 1969, Jimmy married the late Joan Hunt Richardson. They raised their family in Ravenna, where he later became a City-Council member.

Jimmy was a proud graduate of Irvine High School. He was a member of the HIS football team. He was a Golden Eagle and cherished his friends until the end.

Jimmy worked at IBM, which later became LexMark, where he retired. After a stint in retirement, Joan decided Jimmy needed to go back to work. He worked at AJax and the Bluegrass Army Depot.

Jimmy served our county in the Army Reserves. He was proud of his son, James and grandson, Ryan who followed in his footsteps by serving our county.

Jimmy enjoyed lifting weights, playing tennis, trap shooting, and attending sporting events for Estill County Schools and UK. He also enjoyed a good 3-Musketter bar, his favorite treat.

Jimmy was an avid UK fan. For many years you would find him cheering on the UK Football program at Commonwealth Stadium. If he was not at the game, he was in his chair watching them from home (and maybe giving them some advice through the TV).

Jimmy enjoyed time with his family and got a little extra sparkle in his eye when he was around his grandson, Ryan and great-grand Walker.

Jimmy is survived by:

His son, James Willard Richardson III

His daughter, Rebecca (Owen) Barker

His grandson, Ryan Hunter (Raiven) Freeman

His great-grandchildren, Walker Cole Freeman, Aaliyah Bolin, and would have welcomed Myla Mae Freeman in September

His brother, Glen (Faye) Richardson

His sister, Diana Winkle

His sister-in-law, Janas Richardson

His nieces and nephews

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan Hunt Richardson; his parents, Willard and Louise Richardson; and his siblings Robert, Wilma, and Lynn.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 18, 1 PM, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with Bro. Glendon Woosley officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11 AM to 1 PM.

Pallbearers will be: James Richardson, Kevin Coomer, Winfred Winkle, Jamie Winkle, Larry Glen Richardson, and Dave Owens

Honorary Pallbearers: Ryan Hunter Freeman and Walker Freeman

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Bluegrass Care Navigators for their exceptional care given to him.
