Obituary for Harriet Tuttle Troutwine Bannon

A life well-lived is a precious gift. On August 28, 2025, at the age of 99, Harriet Tuttle Troutwine Bannon left this world, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She was born on November 20, 1925, in Estill County, the daughter of Elbert Tuttle and Mayme Freeman Tuttle.

Harriet graduated from Estill County High School in 1944 and studied at Eastern Kentucky University. She lived in Louisville, Kentucky, for many years where she was a member of Okolona Baptist Church. One of her many jobs included working for Enro Shirt Company in Louisville for 25 years. She loved to square dance and cook and had a passion for sewing and quilting. Upon retirement, she volunteered at the Kentucky Center for the Arts and traveled to various states with the Kentucky Airstream Club attending rallies and making so many wonderful friends. She called many places home but was particularly fond of Traveler’s Rest in Dade City, Florida, where she was able to take up golf later in life. Well into her nineties, Harriet pursued activities which kept her physically and mentally fit. Consistent with her competitive spirit, she enjoyed playing cards and games and never liked to lose! She was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats and rarely missed a televised game. For her 90th birthday, she enjoyed her very first UK basketball game in person at Rupp Arena. Above all else, Harriet valued her family and her faith in God and expressed it in the way she lived her life.

Harriet is survived by her children, Barbara Ashcraft Harned, Curran Lee (Betty) Troutwine III; children shared with husband, Jim Bannon, James T. (Marilyn) Bannon III, Michael (Elvira) Bannon, Daniel (Debbie) Bannon, Collleen Bannon Kasch, Patricia Bannon Hayes; son-in-law, Michael Brumley; grandchildren, Susan (Kevin) Hobbs, Kimberly Harned, and Clint Smith; great-grandchildren, Tyler Hobbs, Kaylee Hobbs, Braden (Kristen) Hobbs, Clayton Smith, Taylor Smith; brother, Benny Tuttle; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
