Hallie Marie Woosley, lovingly known to so many as “Mamaw,” passed peacefully into her heavenly home on May 22, 2026, at Baptist Health in Richmond, Kentucky, at the age of 92.
There are some people in this world that feel more like home than a person. That was Hallie. She was born February 22, 1934, in Estill County, Kentucky, to the late Frances Hall and Nannie Bell Hall. She was raised among a large family and carried the values of love, loyalty, strength, faith, and compassion throughout her entire life. Mamaw wasn’t just a mother or grandmother; she was everybody’s safe place. Hallie spent her life as a homemaker, caregiver, and mother figure to anyone who needed love, comfort, or a safe place to land. Her home on Laurel Street in Irvine was known as a place where everyone was welcomed without judgment. She helped raise not only her own children, but many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well. Her love was gentle, steady, and unconditional for all. She loved the Lord with all her heart and held tightly to her faith throughout her life and illness. She often spoke of Heaven and looked forward to reuniting with the family she had loved and lost.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Woosley; her sons Paul Edward Woosley, Louis Woosley, and Anthony Allen Woosley; a great grandchild Taylor Joe Woosley, a special daughter in law Rhonda Lavon Woosley; her parents; her siblings Ann, Tom, Ken, Bev, including infant siblings; and many beloved family members and friends whom she deeply loved and missed throughout the years.
She is survived by her children Gary, Judy, and Dawn; her sisters Maxine Hall, Sue Hall, and Rita Scott; and a large and loving family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Hallie’s grandchildren include Leshia, Chris, Nicole, Larissa, Kenny Joe, Amber Lee, Shawn Scott, Heather, Jay, Stevie Joe, Paul David, and Karen. Her great-grandchildren include Jasper, Calijah, Christopher, Chase, Kaden, Keileigh, Kenzie, Liam, Bella, Brynnleigh, Frankie Joe, Tristan, Bentlee, Tucker, Garrett, Jessica, and Justin, along with many cherished great-great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
One of the people closest to her, her granddaughter Leshia, who cared for her daily and loved her as mother, shared words that describe Mamaw better than anything else ever could:
“The devil himself could have knocked on the door at 527 Laurel Street, and Hallie Woosley would have opened the door with arms wide open, no judgment. Just an offer for a place to rest, some food, and love that wouldn’t be received anywhere else. That’s who she was.”
Those who knew Hallie knew a woman who made people feel loved not only through words, but through her hugs, her kindness, her cooking, her prayers, and the way she cared for everyone around her. She was strong, stubborn, selfless, faithful, and deeply loved. She knew her place was not to judge but to share love. Though her family’s hearts are broken, they find peace knowing she is finally home in Heaven, reunited with those she missed so dearly.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 24, 7 PM, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with Bro. Kenneth Bishop officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 6 to 7 PM.
