Obituary for Ernest Leon Hall

Ernest Leon Hall, age 90, passed away Sunday, April 13th at his home in Union, Kentucky after a short illness. Originally from Spout Springs in Estill County, Kentucky, he was the son of Lawrence “Dick” Hall and Pearlie Winburn Hall. He attended school at Harg Elementary and graduated from Estill County High School. After graduation, he moved to Northern Kentucky and went to work at Cincinnati Gas Electric Company. During his 47 year engineering supervisory career with CG&E, he worked primarily at the West End Power Station in Cincinnati. In the latter years of his career, he was stationed at Beckjord, Dicks Creek and East Bend Power Stations. In 1955, he married Anna Margret Gross, also from Estill County. Throughout their marriage, his goal in life was to provide for his family, create a good home life and help others when he could. Those acts of love and sacrifice found expression in nearly every relationship that Leon forged over his long 90 years.

His passions found expression each summer when a new garden crop was harvested, each fall as the UK Wildcats posted a new schedule, each spring when NASCAR revved their engines and the Cincinnati Reds hit training camp. There were disappointments along the way but prize worthy green beans and tomatoes, National Championships, a checkered flag for Chase Elliott and car number 9, and back-to-back Big Red Machine World Series Champs caused him to beam with pride!

Leon was preceded in death by his wife Anna, his parents and siblings, Louise Brown, Mary Elizabeth Spivey and Edward Hall. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Donna and Henry of Union, Ronald and Cynthia of Florence, Greg and Mary of Asheville, NC; his grandchildren and spouses, Jennifer and Troy, Josh, Nichole and Mason and Catlain; four great-grandchildren, Mallory, Preston, Annie and Skylar. He is also survived by his brother Carl David and Mary Ann Hall, sister Glora Hall and sister-in-law Janice Hall. Dozens of in-laws, nieces and nephews and their families completed is family circle.

There will be a visitation Wednesday, April 16th at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence from 5-8pm for those local to Northern Kentucky.

On Thursday, April 17th, there will be a visitation at Warren F. Toler Funeral Home in Irvine, Kentucky from 12-2pm. The service will follow in the chapel. He will be laid to rest beside his wife and among his family at Jackson Chapel Cemetery immediately following the service.
